Dr. Jane Goodall Passes Away

On Oct. 1, 2025, Dr. Jane Goodall passed away at the age of 91. Most widely known for her work with wild chimpanzees, she was recognized for her efforts to bring respect to Earth’s wildlife. Her discovery of the chimpanzees’ human-like use of tools is widely credited as a breakthrough in the study of these animals. This milestone is only one example of Goodall’s many contributions to overall wildlife awareness. Her passion and love was evident in her dedication to her chosen field of study.
Goodall’s legacy lives on today through the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), which she founded in 1977 for the purpose of continued research in Gombe National Park where she originally conducted her chimpanzee studies. Another institution, the Roots & Shoots program, was founded by Goodall in 1991, offering hands-on conservation opportunities to young environmentalists. Though it started small, the organization has grown widely and is now accessible to high school students in over 75 different countries.
These organizations will ensure that Goodall’s contributions continue to live on through future generations of committed conservationists.
