A Tradition Unlike Any Other

A Recap of the 2026 Masters Tournament

The 90th installment of the Masters Tournament took place over the span of four days earlier this month, April 9-12, at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. This year's tournament saw many great moments, with the highlight being Rory McIlroy winning back-to-back Green Jackets.

The tournament began on Thursday, April 9, with the beginning of the first round of 18. There were 91 players who competed in hopes of dawning the infamous Green Jacket at the conclusion of the tournament. However, after the completion of the second round on Friday only 54 players advanced after the cut was made. The most surprising player to not advance was Bryson DeChambeau, who had the second best odds to win it all this year. After these first two rounds, McIlroy held a commanding lead as he was 12 under through 36 holes, with Sam Burns and Patrick Reed both being tied for second, as they were six under through 36.

With the end in sight, the real push for the Green Jacket began on Saturday. However, things did not go well for McIlroy, as he struggled in the third round, shooting a 1 over 73. This effectively erased his impressive six stroke lead he had created. Comparatively, Cameron Young shot an incredible 65 on Saturday to crawl his way back into contention, as he went from being tied for seventh to being tied for first with McIlroy at six under through 54 holes.

The struggles for McIlroy seemed to continue on Championship Sunday as he was in second for a short period of time, as a double bogey on the fourth and a bogey on the sixth dropped him to nine under and two shots behind Young. However, McIlroy began to retake control with a great performance on holes 11-13, as a par on 11 and birdies for 12 and 13 gave him a strong three stroke lead with five holes to go. McIlroy had his second Green Jacket in sight as he held a two stroke lead heading into the final hole of the tournament. However, a little drama on hole 18 had Masters patrons holding their breath as he seemed to struggle on his last hole. Nevertheless, McIlroy bogeyed on hole 18, which was just enough for him to win back-to-back Masters, shooting 12 under 276 through 72 holes and finishing one stroke in front of Scottie Scheffler . With this win, McIlroy walked away with a payout of $4.5 million, becoming just the fourth ever golfer to win back-to-back Masters and the first to do so since Tiger Woods back in 2001-02.

The 2026 Masters was another great installment of the tournament, as it gave its fans many memorable moments. Unfortunately, golf fans around the world will have to wait another year for the next Masters Tournament, which will take place on April 5-11 in 2027. When that time comes, they hope that the 2027 Masters will hold just as much excitement as this year’s tournament did.
