A Tragic Day

A Fatal Car Crash Before the Veteran’s Day Parade

This past weekend, a fatal car crash occurred on East Tennessee Street with a mother and two sons in the car. On Nov. 11, on the way to Tallahassee’s Veterans Day Parade, a pick-up truck drove over the median and collided head-on with a sedan, killing the mother and one of the sons and severely injuring the other. Both sons were a part of the Rickards High School Band and were on their way to perform in the parade.

“I don't even know how to react to that information because it’s so horrible,” senior Lily Stejskal. “I feel so bad for that family, and I hope that that son is okay dealing with the passing away of his brother and mom around him. I hope that everyone supports him and their family.”

Superintendent Rocky Hanna informed the Tallahassee Democrat that he sent grief counselors to Rickards to help students cope with this tragic loss. Hanna will also visit the school to comfort students and teachers.
