General Mills Boycott

From April 21–28, consumers participated in a week-long boycott led by John Schwarz, a leader of the People’s Union USA, on General Mills. Buyers did this to highlight the corruption within the nation’s food system. Schwarz went on social media to discuss what the boycott was for and attempted to educate people on the food system.
General Mills includes cereal, prepared and frozen food, soups, snacks, yogurt, baking products, pet food and ice cream. Schwarz claimed that General Mills had toxic ingredients, heightened prices during inflation, avoided fair taxes and produced items with low nutrition. The People’s Union USA called out the corporate giants, stating that they “profit off the backs of American families while doing absolutely nothing to reinvest into the communities it profits from.”
With General Mills being a wide spread company, it is harder for them to stop production and notice the difference in their business. The public’s hope is that the companies will notice and fix it for the people. The boycott has since ended and many are waiting for a response.
