Gallery: Dr. Fitzpatrick’s World War II Trip

World War II: On Sept. 8 Dr. Fitzpatrick took students on an educational trip to The USS Alabama and New Orleans. Students learned about World War II on this trip while experiencing some of the local culture in New Orleans. They toured the USS Alabama, The National World War II History Museum, and watched the Victory Belle’s show.

Honor Our Country: Sophomores Julian Bastien, Briac Chassignet-Bunge, Cooper Moninger, Ben Gregory and freshman Liam Calhoun stand in front of the US flag at the National World War II History Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Accuracy: History teacher Dr. Fitzpatrick and senior Pierro Basetti discuss the accuracy of the movie “Saving Private Ryan” and the history of the photograph in front of them. It depicts underwater ramps that were intended to tip over aircrafts on D-Day.

Fire!: Basetti and Braden Lowe pose with guns on the USS Alabama while Dr. Fitzpatrick and junior Lily Money pose with them. Students enjoyed getting an idea of what soldier life were like on this ship.

Air and Sea Armada: Displayed in the World War II Museum, a diagram of the Air and Sea armada showcases the many different types of crafts.

Lights Out: Basetti and Lowe got a taste of the soldiers' lives on the USS Alabama by exploring their living quarters and hopping into their old beds.

Oral History: Throughout the World War II History museum, students were able to rest their legs and listen to short accounts of the war. Depicted in the photo are seniors Reid Roberts and Santi Nunez who are listening to a series of personal accounts.

Torpedo: Students got to explore the inside of the USS Alabama, a ship used in WWII. Students saw the torpedos stored in the bottom of the ship.

Watch Out Below: Students were able to explore the entirety of the USS Alabama, going all the way to the top. The view from above was one that many students appreciated.

Liberty Belles: After exploring the World War II Museum, students watched the Liberty Belles perform. A tribute show to all aspects of the war, it was incredibly educational and entertaining for the students and chaperones.
