Senior Zach Lowe officially signed with Bates College on Jan. 25, 2024, where he will compete on their golf team at the division three level. Lowe has been golfing since 2020 but decided he wanted to pursue at the collegiate level the following year. After years of hard work and dedication, he made his dreams into a reality.

Originally, Lowe had played baseball his whole life up until COVID-19, when everything got shut down. It was not until his sister started playing golf that he decided to pick up the golf club and give it a try. He started to go to the golf course more and more as he got more interested.

Lowe got a late start on the sport, but that did not stop him from working tirelessly to gain skills. For the next year, he was out practicing daily and received private lessons from his swing coach.

Heading into his junior year, Lowe played in countless tournaments, which eventually earned him to be ranked in the state of Florida and ranked nationally. By senior year, Lowe was captain of the boy’s varsity golf team at Maclay and ranked the number two seed.

“I could always count on him [Lowe] on and off the course,” Coach Joe Kupiszewski said. “His willingness to be our team leader made him a great player.”

In October 2023, Lowe was offered a scholarship from Bates College golf coach Shawn Warren to compete on their golf team. He then verbally committed and has been working harder every day since.

“I was so happy that my hard work had paid off, but I realized the job was not finished,” Lowe said. “Just because I committed does not mean that I can take a day off.”

On Jan. 25, Lowe officially signed with Bates College. The signing opened with a speech from the athletic director Harold Hilliard, followed by speeches from Lowe’s parents. Finally, he signed the paper that would bind him to Bates College for the next four years.

“I feel so relieved,” Lowe said. “I am happy that I finally am fully committed and that I have my future laid out of me.”

Lowe will continue to practice daily to work and improve on his game before he heads to college.
