In recent years, pop music has seemingly made a comeback. Old pop music from the 2000s has remained unmatched for a number of years, and fans have been searching and waiting for similar music to rise. Artists like Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and even Kesha set the stage for this style of pop music that has disappeared until recently. The pop music genre has always been a staple, but as many fans have stated “pop music is just not the way it used to be.” However, recently pop music has been making an incredible comeback, bringing the nostalgia of the old pop music we all know and love.

The use of social media platforms has jump started the return of pop music. Social media apps like TikTok and Instagram have allowed different creators to gain influence from a variety of different singers or creators. Before, music creators’ songs would be influenced by their experiences and other music styles they listen to and love. Now, with the rise of social media, creators can be influenced by other’s experiences and not just their own. They are able to combine a larger variety of influences to make music and listen to a much larger variety of music styles. Additionally, these social media platforms help music circulate quickly throughout the world. Viral trends aid this worldwide circulation, giving other creators insight into what is and is not liked. Based on what is thriving on social media, creators can release similar music that fits into what is popular. These social media platforms helped the 2000s pop music that we all know and love recirculate. Through different viral trends on social media, the same old pop music has circled back into popularity. This allows other creators to notice the fans’ love for this music and influence them to release something similar. Thus, social media platforms have aided the reappearance of pop music.

Additionally, many of the recent rising stars have contributed to pop music’s return. Many of the recent creators have been obviously influenced by previous pop music creators. For example, Sabrina Carpenter has been releasing music for a while, but she has recently been releasing viral hits that seem to be influenced by Ariana Grande and even Miley Cyrus. The rising pop singer started her career with a Disney channel show, similar to Cyrus. Carpenter even stated in an interview that she has drawn influence from both Grande and Cyrus and has admired them since she was young. Many fans are comparing her to Grande, and she has been obviously influenced by her style. Carpenter is bringing back the fun catchy pop music we all know and love. Additionally, Chappell Roan is another rising pop singer that seems to have been heavily influenced by iconic pop artists like  Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna. Although Roan’s music is extremely unique, it somewhat resembles the older sounds from these artists. Her most recent album has brought back the iconic, fun and catchy pop music from the past. Roan’s music is another prime example of the resurgence of the pop music we’ve been craving for years. The rising pop star Tate McRae is also worth mentioning. She has been often compared to Britney Spears on social media platforms, especially with her most recent music video “Its Ok I’m Ok.” McRae is quite the performer and dancer, similar to Spears, and her stage presence is top tier. She is contributing to the recent resurgence of pop music.

Modern pop is not the same as it used to be. The pop music that we have loved for years may be resurfacing a bit with artists who have been influenced, however modern pop is not confined to a single sound. Today’s pop artists have been straying from the old sounds of the 2000s. Artists such as Billie Eilish, Charlie XCX and Harry Styles have been experimenting with different genres of music. The blending of different genres helps each of them create a unique and new sound that fans go crazy over. However, the timeless sounds of the 2000s pop music will continue to live on. Thanks to recent artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Tate McRae, the classic pop music sound is back.

The classic 2000s pop music will still continue to thrive, and will always hold a special place in all our hearts. However, as we look towards the future, it is evident that pop music will continue to evolve and adapt. Pop music will continue to be an ever-changing genre with a variety of styles and influences. However, many fans hope to see the continuance of the timeless 2000s pop music sound. The genre’s ability to continue adapting while remaining true to its core elements will hopefully keep the sound around.
