Fiery Delta Plane Crash in Toronto

Delta Jet Flips Upside Down on Runway

On Monday, Feb. 17, Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The plane skidded down the runway at 100 mph, flipped over and lost a wing. Despite all of this, all 80 people on board survived. The 16-year-old plane was traveling from Minneapolis to Toronto and was operated by Endeavor Air. Thanks to their seatbelts, even as the plane flipped all passengers and crew remained safely strapped in their seats.

Delta Airlines is offering $30,000 to each passenger on board the flipped plane. All 21 passengers who were sent to the hospital have since been discharged. On Tuesday, the plane’s black boxes (recording devices) were recovered. So far the assumption for the cause of the crash is a malfunction with the landing gear and unsafe runway conditions. The Canadian Transportation Safety Board, the United States National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
