On Jan. 31, 2026, Maclay’s Junior Classical League (JCL) attended their annual regionals competition. The competition took place at FSUS, and students arrived at 7:30 a.m. for check in. Students, after checking in, were briefed on the competition guidelines and testing locations on the campus. There are 20 different types of tests students could take, including classical art, customs, derivatives, grammar, mythology and vocabulary. Tests are in levels ½, one, two and advanced.

While most opt to take two academic tests, students can also participate in a costume contest or perform a declamation, oration or dramatic interpretation. Students can also submit a project to the competition or participate in certamen, a quiz-bowl style competition focused on latin and greek culture.

Maclay’s advanced certamen team placed third overall, and the level two certamen teams tied for fifth. Maclay placed second in the large group category, and various students across levels placed in their academic tests and creatives.
