The National Honor Society Holds Its New Member Induction Ceremony

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, Maclay hosted the National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony in the Cartee Gym. NHS acknowledges academically accomplished students who have also contributed to their communities through service. Parents and faculty were in attendance, along with returning NHS members who sat across from the inductees. In total, 89 juniors and seniors were inducted into Maclay’s Colin English Senior Chapter of the prestigious society.
NHS Sponsor Stephanie Amidon opened the ceremony with words of welcome. She was followed by NHS President Nishi Bhanderi, who introduced the speaker, David Jackson. Jackson discussed the main pillars of the NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character. He emphasized the importance of each one and praised the inductees on their adherence to the principles.
Along with Bhanderi, vice president Justin Murphy gave a recap of the pillars and lit a candle for each one. Head of Upper School Charles Beamer then gave the inductees words of congratulations and told them how proud he was of their efforts.
Finally, Amidon called up the inductees alphabetically to receive their certificates and shake Beamer’s hand. New senior inductees proceeded first, followed by juniors. After, Amidon gave closing remarks before students and family were released to take photos and enjoy refreshments.
