Gallery: Maclay Students Featured in LeMoyne Art Show

Ceremony: High school students throughout Leon County were celebrated for their art at the Mahaska Whitley Art show.

Attendance: Several Maclay students who were featured, along with their art teacher Mrs. Dressel enjoyed the show and the award ceremony. Juniors Melody Yu and Antonia Nowels pose for a photo with Dressel.

Show: The Mahaska Whitney art show, in its 39th year, celebrates art made by high school students. It is a juried exhibition that promotes creativity, artistic skills and individuality.

Ceramics: Senior Gabe Manry and Junior Maddie Yeager both had ceramic bowls included in this show.

Award: Junior Melody Yu was awarded the General Artist Award for her photo “Inharmonic Tune.”

Portrait: Freshman Charlee Murray was featured in the show for her self portrait. It is a digital piece of art she created using graphic design.

In Another Time: Senior Emma Murray was awarded the Senior Portfolio Award for her painting titled “In Another Time.”

Bowl: Junior Aubrey Benners was featured for her ceramic bowl. She created this in Mrs. Dressels ceramics class.

Support: Many Maclay students and graduates came to support their friends who were featured in the show. Murray was supported by her family and graduate Sarah Cannon, as well as senior Anna Hawken and junior Lily Smith.

Scholarship: Along with her award, Murray received the Ron Sachs and Gay Webster-Sachs Scholarship for her oil paintings.
