“Regretting You” Movie Review

The movie “Regretting You,” directed by Josh Boone, premiered in theaters on Oct. 24, 2025. It brings Coleen Hoover’s bestselling novel of the same name to life. Starring Allison Williams as mother Morgan Grant and McKenna Grace Burge as her teenage daughter Clara, the film shows them battling grief and betrayal as their relationship is put to the test. After Morgan loses her husband and sister in a car accident, she uncovers shocking family secrets, and has to manage her feelings while continuing to care for her daughter. Though the plot could be considered predictable, “Regretting You” combines romance and drama, and presents excellent acting, chemistry and a powerful emotional connection.
One of the most outstanding elements of “Regretting You” is the incredible acting and on-screen chemistry. It is first portrayed with Morgan and Clara, as mother and daughter. Their interactions are very natural and believable, which makes their relationship a core part of the film. Another relationship that showcases this strong chemistry is between Clara and her love interest Miller Adams, played by Mason Thames. Their playful interactions bring a light-hearted view to the story, which balances out the heavier themes of loss and betrayal. All of the actors had amazing performances that overall strengthened the film's storyline.
Unfortunately, “Regretting You” follows a somewhat predictable plot, with familiar elements of family drama and romance. This aspect of the film is less than ideal, as many of the plot twists seem recycled from other movies, books and stories, such as the car accident and other events that follow. The story could have had more depth with a bit more originality to make it feel fresh. Despite the themes being familiar, though, the movie's plot was still shocking and had positive reviews from its audience.
What might be the movie’s most impacting part was the strong emotional connection and themes that were portrayed. The dynamics found in the characters’ relationships were all very realistic. Morgan and Clara’s situation as mother and daughter were very relatable, with deep conversations and lifelike intensity. Additionally, the romantic relationships were just as believable, once again adding sweet moments of lightness to the otherwise more negative storyline.
Overall, “Regretting You” was an enjoyable movie. It had great acting and chemistry, and while the plot was fairly predictable, its emotional depth and relatable view kept it engaging.
