Gallery: The Ceramics 1 Students' First Project of the Year with New Ceramics Teacher Becki Rutta

Back to the Basics: The board describes the students’ first project of the year. They are tasked with making a handmade clay pot for the plants they were given. They are encouraged to use their creativity to make unique pieces.

Step One Complete: New ceramics teacher Becki Rutta poses with her Ceramics I students and their current projects. They have completed the first step: choosing a plant.

Step Two: Senior Jacob Kever is working on his project sketch. He named his plant Alfredo and is making a pineapple-shaped house inspired by SpongeBob Squarepants.

The Blueprint: Students pose with the plants they selected before beginning their initial sketches. They refer to multiple inspiration photos to help visualize the pots they want to create.

Weighting Around: Students weigh their clay on this scale before shaping it into pots. Weighing the clay ensures that the students have enough material to create a pot in the size they want.
