The Arts at Maclay

Gallery: Maclay Provides Students with the Opportunity to Take Creative Electives

Preparation: Band Director Jennifer Corzine conducts her concert band as they rehearse “Nathan Hale Trilogy” in preparation for their upcoming spring concert.

In the Spotlight: Freshman Rachel Morris practices her solo with the help of Corzine, refining her performance to reach its full potential for the concert.

Graphic Design: Junior Nidhi Ponnaganti works on designing pages for The Andalusian magazine. She is currently working on print issue five for the school year, creating designs for the opinion beat and incorporating graphics and color schemes that reflect each article’s topic.

Letting Go: Senior Emma Murray uses a reference photo to paint a picture of her and her sister hugging. She has a similar painting of them on display in the BFIC Hallway, but of when they were young. This painting has a more sorrowful tone than the other, as it symbolizes the hardship that comes with letting people you love grow up.

Colorful Creativity: In art class, this student works on designing a colorful page for his comic book assignment, using both storytelling and coloring techniques.

Artists at Work: This student is developing her comic book project. She starts by using coloring pencils to create the cover page.

Baby Steps: The Ceramics II class starts learning the process of throwing plates from scratch. Junior Brody King begins constructing his plate, becoming familiar with the first step of the process.

Locking in Place: Senior Daniela Capdevielle uses a heat gun on her newly made plate for her ceramics project. The heat gun is the second step of the building process and improves the stability of the delicate clay.

The Finishing Touch: Junior Kate Hartmann finishes the building process on the wheel by trimming the excess clay off her plate, completing the final step of shaping.

Under the Sea: Mildred Seckel, middle and upper school theatre teacher, leads the Advanced Dance Team through a rehearsal of their upcoming play, “The Little Mermaid,” guiding them through blocking and performance elements.
