Spooky season has finally rolled around and we all know what that means… horror movies! Scary movies are the ultimate way to spend your Halloween season before it ends. Whether it is one night of a horror movie marathon or an everyday October horror movie, there has to be at least one movie most people want to watch. If someone is struggling to pick one that they would be interested in, here are top five favorite horror movie recommendations.

1. “The Conjuring”

“The Conjuring” series is a well known collection not only because of how put together it is but also because they are all based on true stories it makes them even more interesting and scary. These movies are specifically focused on Ed and Lorraine Warren who were famous paranormal investigators back in 1973. One thing that sets this movie series apart from other horrors is that they tend to focus more on the eeriness of environments rather than predictable jumpscares, which is why many people love this series so much. The storylines continue to grow in each of the three movies that have been released, with a fourth  and final movie coming out in 2025.

2. “The Deliverance”

“The Deliverance” is a new movie, released this August. This movie is based on the Jackson family in Indiana. A struggling mother and her three children move into a new house and soon after start experiencing demonic activities there. Soon they came to the conclusion that their house is a gateway to hell. The main take away from “The Deliverance” is demonic possession and the power of faith that is grounded to reality. What makes this movie even creepier is that it is based on a true story.

3. “His House”

“His House” was released in 2020 and is about a couple, Bol and Rial, who were refugees fleeing from South Sudan with their daughter Nyagak. On their harsh journey to London, they ended up losing their daughter. The movie then takes a very crazy turn of events which ultimately explains why their run-down apartment for the time being is extremely haunted with these spirits living in their walls, constantly leaving them in a state of fear and confusion. Even though this house is fictional, the writers did extensive research to base the story off of real experiences.

4. “Old People”

“Old People” is based in a very run down and creepy retirement home in the middle of a forest with quite a few elderly people residing there and is severely understaffed. Later in the movie, the elderly turn into maniacs and attack a family after a wedding that happened near the retirement home. This is a fairly calm horror movie and isn't as scary as the others listed, great for those who are easily scared.

5. “Tarot”

Tarot was released earlier this year with many positive reviews. In this movie, a group of friends unleash an evil spirit that was trapped within a deck of cards. One by one, each of the friends meets with fate and desperately tries to escape from the foretold future that the cards read. A lot of viewers sent out warnings to people before watching this movie, many of them saying that they felt like they were also participating in the card readings even though they were just watching, which left them with an uneasy feeling after leaving the cinema, almost as if something followed them home.
