Tiger Woods’ DUI Debacle

Tiger Woods Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Shocking news has hit the sports world again as golf legend Tiger Woods was reported being involved in another car crash on Friday, March 27. This time, Woods’ incident took place near his home in Jupiter Island, Fla. during the mid afternoon.

Woods was reportedly driving down a road at a high speed where he attempted to pass a truck carrying a trailer. However, as he had swerved to avoid the truck, he clipped the back of the trailer causing his SUV to flip on its side and slide down the road. Luckily, neither Woods or the truck driver were severely injured after the crash, and Woods was able to safely exit his SUV by crawling out of his passenger door.

At the scene, investigators immediately believed that Woods was impaired, as he looked lethargic and sweaty as the police questioned him. They did not suspect he was under the influence of alcohol but breathalyzed him anyway, resulting in a 0.00 reading. However, they did suspect he was under the influence of medication or another form of drug, but a search of his vehicle found nothing to back that suspicion. Woods did comply with roadside tests, including the breathalyzer, and was very cautious on what he said to law enforcement, as he did not want to incriminate himself. However, he did not comply with a urinalysis to test for other drugs, which ultimately was the reason he went to jail. Woods was arrested on suspicion of a DUI alongside a count of property damage and refusal to submit a lawful test. After spending around eight hours in jail, Woods was released later that night on bond.

Surprisingly, this has not been the first time Woods has gone to jail over a suspicion of a DUI. Back in May of 2017, he was also arrested in Jupiter after the police had found him asleep at the wheel of his running car, which had two flat tires and damage on the bumpers. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving after he admitted he was on painkillers. A more severe incident took place outside of Los Angeles, Calif. in Feb. of 2021. Here, Woods had been involved in a one car crash, where his SUV rolled over several times and left him trapped inside. Later, he had to undergo surgery to deal with the fractures he suffered in this crash, which is something he still deals with in the present day.

Woods was slotted for a potential return for the Masters in Augusta, Ga., which begins on April 9. However, his highly anticipated return is less likely after these occurring events. As of right now, there have been no major updates released to the public on the topic of this case and only time will tell how heavily this impacts Woods’ golf career in the foreseeable future.
