Trump Makes Claims About Tylenol Being Connected to Autism

President Donald Trump has recently sparked controversy when speaking at a White House press conference on Sept. 22, 2025. He claimed that the use of acetaminophen, more commonly known as Tylenol, during pregnancy could increase the risk of autism in children. He suggested that pregnant women should avoid the medication unless absolutely necessary.
This claim caused disagreements between many healthcare professionals, because the statements aren’t supported by scientific evidence. The World Health Organization, along with other medical and scientific establishments, confirm that from over 20 years of research there has been no connection between acetaminophen and autism.
Though there are some studies that show a link between the two, it is still said that these results could be inaccurate and could be influenced by other factors. An example of these factors could be the mother having a previous medical condition that led to other medications being taken at the same time as acetaminophen.
Currently, doctors are still allowing women to take the medication during pregnancy because it’s medically useful and has more benefits than risks.
