Volleyball Vaults to the Win
The Maclay Volleyball Teams Play Against Christ Classical Academy

Kicking off the Games: The Maclay junior varsity (JV) volleyball team starts off the game day, playing against Christ Classical Academy's (CCA) JV Volleyball Team. Maclay's JV team is coached by Paige Thomas, and CCA’s team by Josh Cornett.

The Forming of Team Friendships: The players gather in a circle during the game, keeping spirits up. It's a routine for the players of both teams after every point scored.

Family Ties: “I’m probably most excited for being on a team with my sister if I get on varsity,” JV player Audra Bubriski said. Her sister is Lila Bubriski, is a sophomore varsity player who plays the setter position.

Sitting on the Sidelines: The varsity volleyball team sits on the side and cheers on their juniors. They’re excited to show their support for their possible future teammates.

Future Views: “My hopes for the junior varsity team are that they grow in skill development, leadership and collaboration,” JV Coach Paige Thomas said. “They played an amazing game but lost to CCA with scores of 20-25, 25-12 and 12-25.

The Final Game: The varsity volleyball team lines up to start their game. The team is coached by Head Coach Latoya Davis, but Assistant Coach RJ White was filling in for this game.

Unity Among Opponents: The Maclay varsity team also played against CCA. The JV and varsity teams share Josh Cornett as their coach.

Getting Ready for Success: Most athletes have a pre-game ritual to get ready for a match. “I usually put on all my gear the same way every time, I eat a snack and I put wrist tape on,” varsity player Lila Bubriski said.

Filling in For the Leader: Assistant Coach RJ White led the team through this game in place of the head coach. Maclay won the game against CCA, with scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-11.

A New View on Spectating: Many people from each school come to watch their kids, peers and siblings play in the game, however not all have relationships with the players. “I didn’t watch a lot of volleyball before working here, but I've come to enjoy it,” Maclay Athletics Coordinator Cooper Harrell said.
