What Time Did You Go To Sleep Last Night?
Maclay Upper School Participates in a Nutrition and Health Assembly

On Aug. 21, 2026, Middle School P.E. Coach and Associate Head Swim Coach Averi Lewis hosted an Upper School assembly in the Cartee gym. This assembly focused on proper sleeping patterns, nutritional foods and appropriate screen times for students, ultimately hoping to guide them into leading healthier lives.
When discussing students’ sleep schedules, Lewis suggested establishing a routine before bed and an early, consistent bedtime in order to optimize their rest. She also talked about the relationship between poor screen time habits and bad sleep, showing how staying up late scrolling ends up feeding into an unhealthy loop of fatigue and bad-quality sleep. Lewis also discussed the types of food students should be consuming to feel their best, suggesting students should eat food from every food group and eat at regular meal times throughout the day. One of the things she emphasized was eating breakfast, explaining how the early meal fuels students’ bodies and minds.
Lewis was very interactive with the students and often called on people to answer questions. Following the assembly, students filed back into their homerooms and answered a questionnaire relating to nutrition, solidifying their new knowledge about health.
