A Historical Ceremony

Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society Induction Ceremony

On Friday, Sept. 26, the Rho Kappa National Honor Society Induction commenced. The Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society is a prestigious, national organization that recognizes high school juniors and seniors who have excelled in the field of social studies. Membership qualifications include the completion of at least four semesters of social studies courses, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher in those courses. Additionally, students must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated a variety of leadership skills.

The induction ceremony was held in Langford Hall, where senior officers Dani Nakis, Nishi Bhanderi, Tea Agramonte, Lucy May and Malia Morton each spoke about the four pillars of the Rho Kappa Society: veritas, scientia, sapienta and officium. Each pillar had its own different colored candle - white, green, gold and blue, respectively - which the officers each lit in successive order. Finally, guest speaker Mary Anna Kamarta ended the induction with a few closing remarks on the numerous opportunities that await students this year.

“We have great potential to learn more about social studies through Rho Kappa,” junior Sadie Bowersox said. “In just the induction ceremony alone, we really outlined and emphasized the values in the club. Being part of the group and being with people who also have similar passions is really exciting.”

Maclay’s Rho Kappa Honor Society looks forward to a year filled with growth and learning in social studies.
