The Top Five Halloween Movies to Watch This Fall Season

When the air starts to get colder and the leaves begin to change, it's a universal sign that fall is starting. With it, all the anticipation for October’s holiday follows. Each Halloween everyone is  faced with a difficult question: what Halloween movies should everyone watch this year? These are the best movies to watch this autumn season. 


  1. “Hocus Pocus”

If you’re looking for a classic Halloween movie, “Hocus Pocus” should definitely be on your list. Released in 1993, it is certain to appeal to all ages of the family. The movie follows the main character Max, who doesn’t believe in witches, only to bring three ancient sisters, the Sanderson Sisters, back to life. The Sanderson sisters main goal, after being brought back only for Halloween night, is to take the youth from the children of Salem. It fits the quintessential spooky vibes, while also being kid friendly.

  1. “The Nightmare Before Christmas”

Another Halloween classic is Tim Burton's “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Done with Burton’s unique clay-mation style, it has certainly become a staple in the Halloween world. With great musical hits like “This Is Halloween" and “What’s This,” it presents a funky and alternative movie that’s far from ordinary. The main character, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, discovers the alternate world of Christmas Town. Trying to bring more excitement to his own holiday, Jack seeks to bring Christmas to Halloween Town, unaware of the chaos that might unfold.

  1. “Sixth Sense”

If you’re looking for something that is more of the thriller variety, “Sixth Sense” is an excellent choice. Malcolm Crow, a child psychologist, takes on a new client, Cole Sear, after being shot by his previous one. Cole claims he can see those who have passed, and Malcolm realizes his claims are legitimate, all while dealing with his own marital troubles. This film has one of the most classic plot twists in cinema, certain to shock every new viewer.

  1. “Beetlejuice”

Another Tim Burton classic, “Beetlejuice” is a staple Halloween Movie. It uses elements of claymation, as well as a mainly live action story. This film's main lead, Lydia, moves into a house in which its previous owners had died. This deceased couple seeks to get Lydia and her family out of their house, so they enlist Beetlejuice to help. It has stayed a fan-favorite over the years, with “Beetlejuice: The Musical” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the sequel to the original, being made.

  1. “It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”

Maybe a lesser known pick, but “It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” is not one to be overlooked. Modeled after the “Peanuts" comic strips, it combines humor with a meaningful message. During the week of Halloween, Linus decides to write to The Great Pumpkin. On Halloween night, the group goes out trick-or-treating, but Linus waits in the pumpkin patch for The Great Pumpkin. Much to his dismay, Linus falls asleep while waiting, wakes up in the morning, but firmly believes The Great Pumpkin will arrive next year.
