On Thursday Jan. 22, the Maclay junior class took part in the Junior Retreat, a morning-long introduction to the college admissions process. At the retreat were college admissions representatives from the University of Florida, Mercer University and Hampden-Sydney College.

The admissions representatives guided the juniors through an admissions case study, in which the students were presented with three fake applicants to the fictional Lake Washington University. The students were tasked with deciding which one of the three applicants should be admitted.

The case study gave juniors a different view of the admissions process, showing them what an application looks like to admissions officers and what aspects of the file stand out the most. Ultimately, the goal is for this understanding to allow them to make the best impression possible when preparing their own applications.

“My favorite part was being able to look at the fake applications,” junior Alexandra Holland said. “It showed me more of what my application should look like.”
