The Maclay boys varsity soccer team faced off against the Williston Red Devils in the 2A Regional Semifinal on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The boys were looking to keep their season alive with a win against the Red Devils. However, the Marauders lost a heartbreaker in penalty kicks, ending their season.

“Coming into the game, our main focus was to shut down their attackers,” junior Ryan Kahn said. “Primarily their wingers and attacking midfielders to prevent any opportunity on goal.”

The Marauders were able to do just that in the first half, as it was tied 0-0 going into halftime. This all changed in the second half though as both offenses came out hot, scoring a total of four goals. At the end of regulation, the game was tied 2-2, which led to the game going into extra time. However, neither team was able to score during this time, leading to a penalty kick shootout. The Red Devils managed to score the only goal in the shootout, meaning they were the victors in this matchup.

Despite their season being over, the boys had an amazing season where they accomplished many things. The Marauders will reflect on the goods and bads of this season to learn what they need to improve on coming into next year. Hopefully, the guys will have another great season and make another deep playoff run next year.
