On Tuesday, April 15, Maclay’s upper school held student council elections. The positions up for election included secretary, treasurer, vice president and president.
Running for secretary were sophomore Bella Krizner and junior Caroline Couch. The candidates for treasurer were freshman Tucker Couch and junior Blake Wilson. Junior Will Hunkapiller and junior Evan Starr ran for vice president. For president, junior Mya Rutledge ran against the junior co-candidates Suhani Gawde and Molly McDonald.
In their speeches, all the candidates promised to represent the students' voices. To name a few, Gawde and McDonald highlighted their mission to be a bridge between students and administrators, Rutledge said her goal was to be a friend to the entire student body and Wilson pledged to work on reinstating the senior shack.
Election results were announced during the last period. Krizner, Wilson, Hunkapiller, Gawde and McDonald were elected.
“I was so happy. I really didn't think I was going to win,” Hunkapiller said. “I texted my mom, and she was really happy, it was really sweet. I was very excited.”
