Pumpkin Spice Is Overrated

When September rolls around, people jump for joy because the approaching fall season means the return of the coveted pumpkin spice flavoring. For some reason, the marketing industry is crazy about this blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger and its comeback seems to arrive earlier every year. The flavor receives most of its hype from lattes, cakes, muffins and other sweet treats bolstered seemingly by customers begging for, and supporting anything labeled, “pumpkin spice” As much hype is generated around pumpkin spice, it doesn’t deserve it and needs to go.
While there are some delicious pumpkin spice treats, it has gone too far. Things like pumpkin spice toothpaste, smoothies, chips, pasta sauce and even toilet spray – gross. The cozy, fall flavor that gives people that nice, warm feeling should be put into delicious warm treats and drinks, not forced into everything. Instead of focusing on old news, people should enjoy other fall flavors that are being neglected. Maple, cinnamon, apple and brown butter are contenders to take over pumpkin spice and end its long reign as the fall staple.
