AI “Fruit Love Island” Sparks Online Popularity

Most people are familiar with the reality TV show “Love Island.” However, a knockoff series featuring AI generated fruit has recently gained people’s attention for its engaging storyline and intense controversy. Launched on March 13, 2026, the AI generated “Fruit Love Island” has become a new form of entertainment for many.
“Fruit Love Island” is a one-to-one recreation of “Love Island,” where humanoid fruits recreate dramatic scenes that can include breakups, romances and arguments- all in front of backgrounds with an uncanny similarity to those on the actual show. The show is posted almost daily, primarily on a TikTok account named “ai.cinema021” and has a variety of humanoid fruits as the characters: “Strawberita” is a strawberry, “Bananito” is a banana, “Pearita” is a pear and so on. The series has taken off, with the most viewed video at over 34 million views. The series likely capitalizes off of people’s shortened attention spans, as each minute-long video is packed with drama and tension to keep people hooked. Engaging as it might be, AI “Fruit Love Island” is, at its core, a knockoff show with directly copied scenes from the original “Love Island.” This unoriginality definitely takes away from the show’s appeal; why watch AI fruit act out scenes that real people have done before? There’s no suspense or question about what comes next when the script is copied.
The account posting the series has received backlash. Multiple people are commenting on the ethics of AI and TikTok is taking down a couple videos for no clear reason. With rising environmental issues focused around AI’s water usage, people are viewing the show with distaste as they believe it is not worth the damage it causes. Additionally, the visuals of the show are inconsistent, with character and background alterations from scene-to-scene. The removal of human actors also creates a disconnect with the audience; AI fruits simply cannot portray human emotions the same way real actors can, and this makes the show lose the relatability factor regular shows have.
Many “Love Island” cast members have made comments on the viral series. Some cast members have found it amusing, but others have expressed a dislike towards the show.
"No I don't watch Fruit Island, I would never watch Fruit Island," Amaya Espinal said. "I don't support it...That's too crazy."
“Love Island” season six cast members Kaylor Martin and JaNa Craig reacted to “Fruit Love Island” via a TikTok. In the clip, they appeared entertained and even laughed with the episode.
“Why is this a thing?” Craig said.
“Love Island USA” season seven received over 18 billion minutes streamed on Peacock, and was ranked first out of reality shows for six consecutive weeks after its release. Meanwhile, “Fruit Love Island” has over 166 million views between all of its episodes. While both shows have a mass amount of viewers, it’s hard for a knockoff to beat the original. While “Fruit Love Island” may be entertaining for many, it still stands second to the original “Love Island,” with inferior actors, view counts, ethics and copied scripts.
