On Sept. 20, the lower school students participated in a competitive election to see who would be chosen for each position in the lower school student council. Each student took their speeches seriously, even though some of them found it nerve wracking being up on stage in front of their peers and parents. Overcoming their nerves, the candidates still managed to push through and do their best to give professional, heart-warming speeches.

“I have very good handwriting, and I am creative,” Administrative Liaison candidate Emmie Clark said.

This particular statement was frequently used among the students, which shares a glimpse into what matters to them at their young age. They weren’t afraid to speak their minds, a testimony to their courage and eagerness to engage with their classmates.

“I am always happy to go out of my way to help Maclay,” Treasurer candidate Cody Arnold said.

The lower school students showed their pride and joy for Maclay in various ways throughout the speeches. Despite the young age, the candidates demonstrated proper usage of words and thoughtful ideas.

“I want to give back to the school that has given me so much,” Treasurer candidate Elizabeth Gao said.

Many of the teachers and adults had similar reactions to this statement that was used. They were all charmed by the cuteness but also shocked by the level of depth. This student showed her peers that she has a very deep love for Maclay and that she understands how Maclay has helped her in certain situations. It also goes to show that she understands and appreciates the work that her teachers and peers put into making her experience at Maclay better emotionally and environmentally.

As the speeches concluded, students were welcomed to form opinions and think about who to vote for to be elected into the Lower School Student Council.
