“3, 2, 1… go!” On Saturday, Nov. 9, Maclay School’s Mu Alpha Theta math team jumped into action at the James S. Rickards 2024 Fall Invitational, placing third overall and earning first place among schools in their region, which spans from Leon County through the panhandle.
All of Maclay’s teams placed first in the region, with Calculus and Precalculus placing third overall, and Statistics and Algebra II placing fourth overall. Among individual participants, freshman Kai Okui earned fifth place in the individual precalculus division, competing against students from all attending schools.
“I am so proud of everyone who competed for their hard work and dedication leading up to this competition,” Mu Alpha Theta sponsor John Gussaroff said. “We did great and this was the first time we beat all the other schools in our district. It’s a huge accomplishment.”
With this achievement, Maclay’s math team is more than ready to compete in upcoming competitions.
“We’re thrilled to start the competition season on such a great note,” Gussaroff said. “All teams have set a high bar, and I know they’re capable of reaching even greater heights.”
