On Saturday, Jan. 11, Maclay School’s Mu Alpha Theta math team competed at the Chiles Statewide competition, placing seventh out of the twenty-one participating schools, and first out of the eight schools in the district.

All teams placed in the top three rankings in the district. Calculus placed first, Precalculus, Statistics and Algebra II placed second, and Algebra I placed third. Among individual scores, senior Diya Patel, who competed in the calculus division, placed first in the district.

“The math competition was really fun,” sophomore Elsa Bykova said. “I enjoyed it a lot because I got to practice my math skills while also having the chance to hang out with my friends.”

Maclay’s math team is now preparing for their upcoming competition at the Maclay Regional on Saturday, Jan. 25.
