Green and Gold looks better on the Marauders. The Maclay boys golf team beats the Lincoln Trojans on a sunny afternoon, kick starting their busy week ahead. The Marauders won the golf match 155-158, pulling off a narrow victory. Some of the top performers from the match were sophomore Jack Cook, senior Zach Lowe and senior Jacob Parrish.

On Sept. 18, the Maclay Varsity boys golf team competed against the Lincoln Trojans in a back-and-forth battle at the Hilaman Golf Course. The team had a strong start, having the best scores on holes one, two and four.

“I believe the team competed well overall,” Parrish said. “There were a few minor errors that can be fixed in the future but overall, we were able to put our game out there and get a win.”

As the match continued on, the Marauders performance began to decline. Holes six and seven were a struggle across the board. Players said they felt too comfortable and complacent with their putts, retracting their aggressive plays. This led to the Marauders giving their lead to the Trojans.

“I think they battled well,” head coach Joe Kupiszewski said. “Problems always come up during a match for each golfer and how you respond to that adversity goes a long way to impacting your results.”

Parrish’s birdie on the ninth hole capped off the Marauder comeback and secured the win for Maclay, pushing the margin of victory to three strokes.

“I like to keep my head in the moment and take it one shot at a time,” Parrish said. “Over-thinking it in high-pressure situations only causes more problems so it is good to keep your mind in the present.”

Although it was a battle, the Marauders had a competitive mindset and gameplay which ultimately led to their win. The team's victory was a testament to their tenacity. This win not only boosted their confidence, but also set a high bar for their upcoming Big Bend Championship on Tuesday. The Marauder's win over the Trojans moves their record to 4-2 and pushes them inside the top three teams in Tallahassee.
