Shelf, developed by Koodos Labs, hit app stores in September 2024, but is just now gaining attention. The app allows users to track and display what they are watching, reading, listening to and playing across platforms such as Spotify and Netflix. It compiles that activity into a personal profile or “shelf” that updates over time.

Unlike traditional social media platforms, Shelf emphasizes documentation instead of performance. Users can connect accounts, generate weekly summaries of their media habits and view friends’ activity without likes or follows.

The app is different from previously established social media because users share interests rather than personal videos or images. CEO Jad Esber described the concept as moving from “selfies to ‘shelfies,’” showing what people consume as a way to identify with others.

Since Shelf launched publicly in 2024, it has been recognized as one of the top new apps of the year by several publications.
