Stuck Now or Forever

Astronauts Stuck in Space

The original journey that Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams took to space was only supposed to last eight days, but the two astronauts have been in space since June 5, 2024. Wilmore and Williams got stuck in the International Space Station (ISS) when their Boeing Starliner spacecraft went under a bit of malfunction and left to return to earth without them. Although this was not planned, the NASA leaders and the astronaut are still in high spirits.

NASA originally planned to get the astronauts back in February, but due to some difficulty in the SpaceX rocket, the mission has been pushed back. SpaceX is currently preparing a new capsule for liftoff, which is supposed to be ready no earlier than late march. The astronauts stated that although it is not ideal to be stuck in space, they do not feel abandoned by NASA as they have been in contact with them throughout this time. They have also received capsules with food, clothes and water to keep them well.

Wilmore and Williams are glad to hear that there are plans to bring them back to earth. The extended journey was not expected, but the astronauts have not let this bring them down.
