Commemorating the Most Important Events in Christianity

April is a sacred month for Christians worldwide honoring the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Good Friday, or Great Friday, commemorates Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross. Easter, often called the most important day in Christianity, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus three days after his crucifixion. Lent, a 40-day period leading up to Easter, represents when Jesus fasted and prayed in the desert before his public ministry and encourages believers today to deepen their faith by repenting, fasting, praying and more. While specific rituals may vary based on the denomination, this month calls all Christians to get closer to God and be renewed in their spirit.
This year, the Lent season lasted from Wednesday, March 5 to Thursday, April 17. Good Friday was April 18, and Easter Sunday was on April 20.
