For many Maclay students, mornings consist of rushing around trying to get out the door and making it to school on time. On most of these mornings, breakfast is skipped and students miss out on an essential part of their morning routine. Even though it is extremely overlooked, breakfast is actually the most important meal of the day. Breakfast provides the initial source of energy needed to get through the day, helps manage weight and allows for a more positive mood. Instead of allowing the rush of the morning to overtake them, students should carve out a little extra time in their mornings designated for breakfast. 

For students, starting off the day by eating a fulfilling and healthy breakfast helps provide the necessary energy needed to get through the day. By boosting energy, academic performance is improved. BetterHealth writes that it is not a good idea to skip breakfast even though it may seem like it will help reduce overall energy intake and help you lose weight. It has been proven that breakfast eaters are much more physically active in the morning because they have higher energy. A higher energy intake allows for more energy for academics, work and both mental and physical strains during the day. Since school hours happen primarily during the beginning of the day, eating breakfast is extremely beneficial because it will keep energy high throughout the duration of the school day. These benefits make eating breakfast a very necessary start to the day in order to start and remain energized. 

Eating breakfast also surprisingly helps with weight management and appetite. For any person trying to get in shape and stay healthy, eating a satisfying breakfast in the morning is very important. Contrary to the popular belief that in order to lose weight you need to cut calories, and therefore breakfast, skipping breakfast can have negative effects on weight management. A good breakfast will allow you to be fuller for longer and will prevent unhealthy snacking throughout the day, thus allowing you to cut calories anyways. According to Florida Dairy Farmers, it is necessary to start off the day with foods that are rich in high-quality protein and fiber that will help control appetite. For example, foods such as yogurt, milk, eggs, oatmeal, cottage cheese and fruit are especially filled and packed with nutrition, making you feel much more satisfied than if you consumed foods that may contain empty calories and minimal nutrients. A good and fulfilling breakfast will actually help manage appetite and therefore allow for easier weight management and a healthy body.

Starting your day off by eating breakfast will help avoid waking up on the wrong side of the bed and start off the day on a positive note. It has been proven that eating breakfast each morning boosts your mood. Based on WebMD, not eating breakfast can cause you to have a more difficult time focusing, and make you much more tired in classroom settings. It also is common to become cranky or restless due to the absence of breakfast. It is difficult to be cranky in a classroom and still keep your high attention. Being agitated in a classroom distracts students from academic topics and prohibits their best academic performance. Eating a healthy breakfast in the morning fills students with energy, allowing them to feel happy and excited for the events of the day. 

Many students struggle finding time to make breakfast or eat it; however, this problem can be resolved easily. Waking up slightly earlier in the morning can allow just enough time for the most important meal of the day. It is necessary to make time for breakfast due to the numerous benefits that it has on a student's daily life. Additionally, there are other options for breakfast if time cannot be made. Especially in today’s world, there are many breakfast options that can be made quickly and taken on the go. These breakfast options are quick, fast and healthy all in one making a perfect option for a student in a rush. Additionally, a parent or sibling can also help prepare breakfast in the mornings and have it ready the night before. No matter the situation, breakfast should always be a morning priority due to the many benefits it provides.
