A Dismal First Appearance
The Drastic Turn FSU Football Has Taken Last Year to This Year
Florida State football was the team everyone was watching, finishing with a record of 13-1 and almost making it to the college playoffs last year. With their most skilled players, Trey Benson, Keon Coleman and their quarterback Jordan Travis, FSU was the team to beat in the 2023 season. What all FSU fans regretted to see was these favorite seniors leaving the team with the 2024 season upon them.
Traveling all the way to Dublin, Ireland, FSU’s first appearance of the season was against Georgia Tech on Aug. 24. Fans traveled to Dublin to watch their favorite team play, including Maclay’s very own football and cheer team. Knowing FSU was favored by 10.5 points over Georgia Tech, the FSU fans were expecting them to win. With five seconds left on the clock, the score tied, and Georgia Tech made the field goal from the 34 yard line, winning the game.
Fans were disappointed by the way FSU played, remembering that the team last year would have won this game with no doubt in their minds. After the loss of many beloved seniors last year, this team’s roster has not been playing as well as what was expected.
“I think they are really bad this year,” senior Grace Stalter said. “I just don't think they were as good as they were last year.”
On Sept. 2, FSU had their first home opener, fans were hoping that the last game was only a one time problem, however, they were quickly proven wrong. The Seminoles lost the game with the score of 13-28, the team made two field goals and one touchdown, which was not enough to get the score close.
“Get a new quarterback, get a new roster, get a new everything,” junior Abram Wildrick said.
Florida State football is the only ACC college team that has not gotten a win on the board, compared to last year's 13-1 record where the only game they lost was the last game they played in the season versus Georgia. Will FSU later make up for these first three games lost, or could this be one of the worst seasons Florida State fans have seen in a while?
