Marauder Beatdown
Maclay Varsity Volleyball vs. the Chiles Timberwolves
The Marauders faced the Chiles Timberwolves for their second matchup of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The girls were looking to extend their win streak by not only upsetting the stacked Timberwolves squad, but also by getting revenge after Chiles had won 3-0 against the ladies earlier this season. The Marauders were unsuccessful in their attempt as the Timberwolves would win once again in a 3-0 fashion.
It was all Timberwolves from start to finish. The Marauders started the game off slow, struggling to get points on the board and limit the Chiles’ offensive attacks. The ladies would lose the first set 25-17. The Marauders showed their talent in the next set as they made some impressive plays, but ultimately, Chiles would handle them, winning 25-20. By the time the last set came around, Chiles had worn out the Marauders in every aspect, and it showed as the Timberwolves won 25-12, resulting in a 3-0 Maclay loss.
“As a team, we could communicate better during serve receive to ensure a solid pass, set and attack,” sophomore Esther Izuegbu said.
The Marauders hope to put this loss behind them and go back to their winning ways. The team is on the road for their next match as they face the Wakulla War Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 24.
