Maclay Boys and Girls Varsity Swimming vs Rickards and Lincoln
The boys and girls Marauder swim teams had their first meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 3 against the Lincoln Trojans and Rickards Raiders. The Marauders were hoping to capture their first win to start the season after months of preparation. In the end, they were successful in their hopes as the boys and girls combined to win the overall meet.
The boys won with 579 points, scoring more than Rickards and Lincoln’s combined total of 273 points. The girls would do the same, scoring an impressive 597 points, also outscoring the combined efforts of the Trojans and Raiders' 394 points.
“It feels good to see all the hard work that I’ve put in to prepare for this payed off,” Paquette said. “Winning feels even better knowing I’ve grown to get to this point.”
The overall victory was spearheaded early, as the boys and girls won their respective 200 yard medley relay, securing 40 points to open the meet for both teams. Then, the Marauders would dominate their individual races as freshman Olivia Holt would secure 20 points for the girls by winning her 200 yard freestyle and junior David Paquette secured 20 points for the guys by winning his 100 yard breaststroke.
“It’s nice to be back in the water,” junior William Chen said. “Although I felt like I could’ve done better.”
The Marauders seek to keep up the early season momentum against the Community Christian Chargers on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
