Maclay Varsity Football Falls to the Deerfield-Windsor Knights

The Maclay Marauders traveled to Albany, Georgia to take on the Deerfield-Windsor Knights on Friday, Oct. 24. The Marauders were looking to improve to 8-1 by spoiling the Knights Senior Night and their perfect undefeated season. However, the team was unable to get it done, as they lost 42-12 and dropped to 7-2 on the season.
“I believe the factors that led to the loss were a lack of focus and concentration by the team,” senior Justin Murphy said. “We were not locked in leading up to the game and that led us to have to try and flip the switch as the first kickoff was undertaken, which is a near impossible task.”
The Marauders were barely able to get anything going in the first half of play, as they went into the half down 7-21. They seemed to be back in rhythm at the start of the second half after forcing a punt and quickly capitalizing by scoring a touchdown, making it a one score game. However, the comeback stopped there as the Knights scored 21 unanswered points, which led to a 14-42 defeat for the Marauders.
“I think we can forget about our loss by just focusing on the next game and preparing for it,” sophomore Holt Antohi said. “Every week has its own game with its own challenges, so I think we just need to focus on this week’s game and learn from last week’s mistakes and put it in the past.”
The Marauders hope they can forget this loss and move on as they have a lot to look forward to. The Marauders look to end the season strong as they will travel to DeFuniak Springs next week to take on the Walton Braves on Oct. 31.
