World-Renowned American Figure Skater Ilia Malanin Fell During His Event

For a short few weeks in Milan, the world's greatest athletes call it home. The 2026 Winter Olympics is famous for their challenging events such as skiing or ice hockey, but this year’s figure skating is proving to be just as competitive.
Ilia Malanin, a 21-year-old American male figure skater came to the Olympics with the hope of gold for the individual. He is commonly nicknamed “Quad God,” as he is the first and only figure skater to successfully execute a quadruple axel, as well as all six types of quadruple jumps.
During the final round of individual competition, Malanin fell multiple times in his solo.
“In the end, it's really hard, physically, mentally, emotionally,” Malanin said. “There's so much that goes into this sport, and the people don't really realize what's happening.”
His faults unfortunately cost the skater the gold medal, only placing eighth. Malanin turned it around for the group event, where he and his team ended up placing first, securing a gold for America. He has confirmed that he will be competing in the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague.
