Six More Weeks of Winter!

Punxsutawney Phil Predicts a Long Winter for 2025

The tradition of Groundhog Day was continued on Feb. 2 in Punxsutawney, Pa. On Groundhog Day every year, Punxsutawney Phil, the nationally famous groundhog, predicts whether the United States and Canada will experience six more weeks of winter or early spring. The result of the groundhog’s prediction in 2025 was a long winter.

According to USA Today, if Phil sees his shadow, he will return to his den and predict six more weeks of winter. If Phil does not see his shadow, he will stay out in the sun, meaning North Americans can expect an early spring. This tradition,139 years in the making, has captivated crowds for decades. In 2025, over 40,000 people witnessed the beloved animal’s prediction. Whether they were in support of a long winter or an early spring, people were eager to witness Phil’s forecast.
