Maclay Varsity Football vs. the Lafayette Hornets
The Maclay Marauders started their season off strong in their first game against the Lafayette Hornets on Friday, Aug. 21. The team began the game with a quick offense and sturdy defense. The Marauders are 1-0 with the final score of the game being 38-0. The shutout victory gave Maclay an exciting start to the season and showed strength on both sides of the ball.
“To prepare for the game, I made sure to watch film and drink lots of water,” senior Tucker Poppell said. “My favorite part about the game was how our defense was flying around and playing hard.”
The Marauders' defense played a major role in the win, keeping the Hornets from scoring. After switching divisions from the 1A division to the Sunshine State Athletic Association (SSAA) division, Maclay is ready for an exciting season. The new division brings new competition, but the close-knit team hopes to carry this momentum to their next game at home against the Rutherford Rams on Friday, Aug. 28.
“My favorite part of the game was scoring the first touchdown of the year,” senior Henry Richardson said. “I am most excited for the final season playing with all my best friends.”
