Cat in Critical Condition Survives

On July 1, 2026, in Tallahassee, a woman and her children walked through the front doors of Leon County Humane Society (LCHS) with a dying kitten in a Bojangles box. The kitten was already in critical condition, appearing pale and completely motionless. Immediately, the LCHS executive director rushed the feline to the Paws and Claws Veterinary Hospital.
Once the kitten arrived, veterinarians noted that it was not breathing, with some anticipating the cat would not make it. Initially, it seemed that the kitten did not have a heartbeat, and its temperature was so low that a normal thermometer was unable to read it. However, after hours of treatment, including blood transfusions, incubation and IV fluids, the kitten’s heartbeat returned. Although it was faint, the heartbeat meant that the kitten had survived.
After some testing, it was found that the kitten would not have any permanent issues due to this experience. Now happy and healthy, the kitten, dubbed “Zomboy” by the veterinarians, was adopted by Paws and Claws staff member Sean McCaskey.
