On June 22, 2026, 54-year-old James Dalton Bryant entered the newly opened Regions Bank in Tallahassee and slipped a note to a teller demanding cash. Bryant was given $3190 in cash but was quickly apprehended by local law enforcement while in his Mercedes, which was the same vehicle he fled in.

Bryant is being prosecuted by attorney John Heekin, who attributes the quick arrest to the incredible law enforcement in Tallahassee.

“This case exemplifies the excellent investigative work of the Tallahassee Police Department to identify, track down, and arrest violent criminals, like this defendant,” Heekin said. “The safety of our communities is not negotiable, and I am committed to ensuring we aggressively prosecute these crimes to send criminals like this defendant to federal prison.”

Following this crime, Bryant was detained in the Leon County Jail, until he was brought before a court on Sept. 22. According to authorities, Bryant openly admitted that he committed the crime, leading to a strong case against him. As a result, Bryant pleaded guilty to a single count of bank robbery and will face up to 20 years in prison. He is set to be sentenced on Dec. 10, 2026.
