“67” Named Word of the Year by Dictionary.com

The viral slang term, a number with no fixed meaning, shows the extreme influence of youth culture and social media.
Dictionary.com has selected “67”, pronounced “six-seven,” as its 2025 Word of the Year,
a notable shift from the site’s typical language-based picks.
The numeric slang term gained traction across social media platforms and through the viral song “Doot Doot (67)”, and its usage has surged particularly among Generation Alpha. Often paired with a specific hand gesture, “67” has no universally accepted meaning. Some use it to express uncertainty, such as “maybe” or “this or that,” while others use it as an inside joke, specifically among the youth.
Lexicographers at Dictionary.com say the choice is a result of how language continues to evolve because of digital culture. They note that the rise of “67” emphasizes the increasing influence youth communities and online trends now have on typical expressions.
