Heisman Award Finalists Announcement

On Monday, Dec. 8, the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy were announced. The Heisman Trophy is an award given to the most outstanding college football player of the year. The four 2026 Heisman candidates are Jeremiyah Love, Fernando Mendoza, Julian Sayin and Diego Pavia.
Jeremiyah Love is currently a running back for Notre Dame. He has an average of 6.9 yards a carry and is one of just two running backs with at least 1000 rushing yards. This year, Love is the only candidate who is not a quarterback.
Meanwhile, Fernando Mendoza, a quarterback from Indiana, passed for 2,980 yards with 33 touchdowns. Mendoza was mostly considered for the award not due to his statistics, but rather, due to his ability to take a historically poor program to new heights.
In addition, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is quite the opposite, being considered due to his outstanding statistics. Sayin has the best passer rating in the league at 78.4%, and has been a dominant quarterback this season.
Finally, Diego Pavia, a quarterback from Vanderbilt, has led another poor program to an excellent season, averaging 455.8 total yards in the last four Vanderbilt games.
The result will be released on Dec. 13. With these excellent candidates, the winner of the Heisman should be a tough decision for the electors.
