Donald Trump became president on Jan. 20 and has already signed over 35 executive orders. One of the many issues on his mind is the Make Greenland Great Again Act, a bill that lays the groundwork for acquiring Greenland, which would significantly expand the territory of the United States. The bill is led by Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles and is backed by 10 other allies of Trump in the house of representatives.
The Make Greenland Great Again Act gives Trump permission to formally negotiate the purchase of Greenland, the world's largest island located in North America and owned by the Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland has a sparse population of about 50,000 due to the area being particularly cold and icy.
With the purchase of Greenland, the U.S. could control routes in the arctic, shortening shipping time and providing a political advantage. Greenland is also abundant in resources. It holds about 1.5 million tons of rare earth reserves and 30% of natural gas reserves.
“American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat,” representative Andy Ogles said. “House Republicans are ready to help President Trump deliver for the American people.”
